Pressing Pause

Thursday morning rain lulls us all to sleep later than normal, snuggled under comforters and burrowed into pillows.

Preschool beckons, so we finally creep into action, dressing and eating and remembering water bottles and lunches and homemade play-doh.

I kiss her palm, and she tucks it into her backpack; he reaches up: "Care-Me".

Precious moments that stop my heart then get lost in the rush of the morning.

Sighing as she and Ryan walk out the door, I snuggle Dylan close, wishing I could stop time for just a moment to imprint their today-ness on my memory.

Thanks to Alison and Galit, I took some time to capture some little things about them.  Today.

Because tomorrow may not look the same, but I know it will be just as lovely.

  1. Aw, sweetness!!

I think this is a really good thing to do with our kids monthly - like a scrapbook of memories, capturing their here and now.

Thank you for linking up, Angela!

  6. "I kiss her palm, and she tucks it into her backpack." That one line melted me. And your last sentence made me tear up. Whether it's because it's so, so true or because I'm just feeling generally weepy and nostalgic in the wake of my own daughter's 2nd birthday, I have no idea.

"Because tomorrow may not look the same, but I know it will be just as lovely."  Oh, how true are those words, Angela!  So many precious moments, not enough time to capture them all, it often feels like.  Love the little scribbles you've written for Abbey and Dylan...

  13. Those are our go-to bedtime songs (well, not the Halo/Walking on Sunshine, but the rest of them!)

  14. There's a book about that, but it's my favorite thing.  I love that she tucks it away and doesn't just "hold" it.  Like it's real.  Because I wish I COULD make it real for her to carry all day :)

    D turns 2 next month.  I am astounded :(

  26. The last line of your sweet post reminds me (so much) of something I've said throughout the more than fourteen years I've been a mother:

(Are you ready? Here it is.)

"THIS is my favorite stage. No really. I know I've said it before, but now I mean it. THIS is the best one."

    Yes.

Every single stage has bee the best. In my heart. In that moment.
Never the same and always as lovely.

    Indeed.

  32. Oh, I'm glad you liked it and could relate to a lot of it.

  34. Thanks to Galit & Alison for the idea :)  I loved doing it.

  35. Thanks Jessica!  I should pull them out when they are tearing my house apart around 5:00 each day...

  36. The Glee one?  I have now heard that song more than any other song I've ever heard, I think.  "Mommy, let's hear Halo!" over. and. over.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think so, too.  I can't imagine how quickly it starts to fly when they're busy all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank you!  They are funny, that's for sure :)

  39. I say that, too!  Each stage is such a gift (and a challenge at times, but mostly a gift.)  They are so wonderfully fun and amaze me more and more as they grow.

  40. I love your words for each of them...so precious. I esp love that "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" is mentioned for Abbey. That's my daughter and I's song (well, mine for her at least). And Dylan - I feel him on cheese and bananas - two of my fave food groups ;)

  41. :)  I love that song.  That's the big gun.  You are My Sunshine is our go-to, but SOTR is what I sing when she's really needing a special boost.

  42. I would love to see some of Abbey's lists and notes. And just seeing the words 'baby mine' makes me teary. Kids are awesome.
