Tickets for Two?

Tickets for Two?

I’m a movie buff.  I won’t say “film buff,” because I like Weekend at Bernie’s just as much as an Ingmar Bergman marathon on a Saturday night.  I’ll share my popcorn – if you’ll share your Junior Mints.

My camera’s usually nearby, but I run for cover if someone starts taking video.  Like David Lynch once said, “I like to remember things my own way. How I remembered them, not necessarily the way they happened.”

I’ll take computer-slowing amounts of photos, though, from the graffiti on the buildings downtown to sunlight streaming through your hair…if you don’t mind, of course.

You don’t need to be a runner, but I hope you don’t mind that I am.  The endurance helps me keep up with you on the dance floor when we go to listen to live music.

Ideally, you’d love the water, get excited about eating guacamole for dinner once in a while, and be willing to watch one of my nieces and nephews play soccer some weekend, if I bring the coffee and donuts.

According to Tarantino, there are only two kinds of people in the world, Beatles people and Elvis people…Somewhere you have to make a choice. And that choice, tells you if you want to go out with me. Or something like that.

Because I’m an Elvis guy.  I’d like the think any actual resemblance is closer to Army Elvis than Peanut Butter and Banana Elvis, and I promise to leave the sequined jumpsuits at home – most of the time.

the prompt:

Let’s have fun this week. We want you to write a personal ad for your character, like one you would find on a dating site. The ad should tell us about your character, but should not be a laundry list – and no cliches about walks on the beach.

  1. oooh, one of the best ones I've read ,because it's so real, so authentic and  filled with pop culture and the phrases, ( I was afraid to use quotes etc, and now I wish I had) this was just good because I could see it on a match.com site and it gave me a real image of this guy. Really liked it sweetie ...:) xo

I love this line! It is so true that while the events surrounding in the moment may not be pleasant, one single shot could tell a different story a thousand times over!

  3. Lynch, Tarantino? Army Elvis?
I'd date him. So would my ad girl ;)

  4. This was really well written-it sounds like a nice guy.  This is my favorite line in the whole thing:
"According to Tarantino, there are only two kinds
of people in the world, Beatles people and Elvis people…Somewhere you have
    to make a choice."

  5. Well, I don't usually share my Junior Mints, but I might make an exception for this guy. Enjoyed the read!

  6. Ha! one of the first things I ever asked Rob after he responded to my ad was if he's an Elvis or Beatles person.  He gave the right answer.

This is great.  Thoughtful, full of hints to the guy's personality - complete with references to Lynch and Tarantino.  Nice!

  7. I totally found myself wondering if I am an Elvis person or a Beatles person, LOL!! I love this. He sounds like a guy I would want to go on a date on.

  8. Guacamole, running and Elvis??  I'm in! ;-)

  9. Such a quirky kind of girl! But I bet she'd be a great friend and incredible girlfriend to the right guy!

  10. George is a Tarantino quoter too.  Just about everything random he says, I question "Pulp Fiction, huh?"  He nods.  I have got to watch that movie someday, because I feel so lost sometimes.  :-)

I totally agree about the camera/David Lynch stuff.  I want to freeze the image.  The video (especially of myself) makes me wanna cry.  :-)

  11. Popcorn and Junior Mints, perfect movie combination! I agree about the camera/video stuff. I love pictures, but hate catching myself on camera (says the girl who can't stop vlogging, ahem.)

  12. Oh, I like this side of Drew! He sounds fun, you can see why Greta is attracted to him.

  13. He's a fun guy.  I think.

So far...I'm not so great at the guys :)

  14. It's a good combination.  I'm also a fan of Popcorn and reese's pieces, but once Abbey starts going to movies, I can't get that anymore.

I still haven't vlogged.  I hate myself on camera.  So much.

  15. Oh my goodness, Ryan quotes movies all the time.  You should see Pulp Fiction. It's funny.

    Oh, I can't stand myself on video.  There's a reason I don't vlog :)

  16. Did you come up with an answer?  I always thought I was a Beatles person, but I am recently discovering that I might be wrong.

  17. Ryan is INTO movies.  Much more than I am, and he is obsessed with David Lynch.  I probably could have asked him for the quotes (I looked them up so I got them exactly right).

  18. Thanks Vicky!  You could always get two boxes :)

  19. It's one of my favorite parts in the movie :)

  20. Ryan is a huge, huge David Lynch fan.  Some days I agree ;)

  21. Isn't the difference between a photo and a video so profound?

  22. Thanks Alison.

That's one of my favorite parts.  Their whole "date".

  23. Thanks Kir!  I was shooting in the dark with this one, so I just winged it a little :)  It was a fun prompt to do, though.

  24. Oh, I find myself really liking this guy!  Love all his "between the lines" and his sense humor. The ad just sort of screams: "I'm that sensitive guy who'd love with all my heart and soul.  And a looker too (provided the resemblance is indeed closer to the Army Elvis)."  Kind of like the brooding kind.  Definitely one of a kind! ;)

  25. I like him, too :)  He's flawed, but I think I could hang out with him, and I'd set him up with a single friend.  You know, if he wasn't just a figment of my imagination :)

  26. Loved the closer to Army Elvis line and all the little telling details.  This is Greta's guy, right? Sweet personal ad. :>

  27. What fun! Glad he is living the suit home for the first date!
