For a while, I have been meaning to go through Abbey's old clothes. I have been putting things away since she was born, and I hadn't really sorted through any of it. I pulled gender neutral things out before Dylan was born (all three gender-neutral items I owned,) but that was it. My dear friend is having a baby girl so very soon (hooray!) that I thought now would be a good time to finally purge some of those old clothes.
I have to admit that it was really emotional for me. Seeing some of my absolute favorites (her Ralph Lauren velour track suit, the argyle sweater dress, her bubble suits, a yellow velvet dress she wore to Brendan's first birthday party) made me nostalgic and so cognizant of the fact that I will never again have a little daughter to dress in those things. My baby girl has leapt into toddlerhood, with Dylan nipping at her heels, and those little infant clothes are gone from my life forever. In fact, I couldn't part with certain items (which is ok, because Baby Lulu will be a summer baby, and some of Abbey's clothes just won't work for her). Maybe one day I will make a quilt or something. If I could manage to sew a straight line. Ok, maybe I will take it to someone to make a quilt for me.
Yet, if you know me, you know that I like to get rid of stuff. So after I dried my tears, I also went through Dylan's clothes. He is outgrowing them like lightning. More tears.
In the end, I had bags of clothes for Colleen, some things saved in the closet for a future niece or nephew (fingers crossed!), and a giant pile for charity. And in true me-fashion, my motivation has moved somewhere else in the house, and the huge charity pile is still waiting to be bagged and donated. Ooops.
Abbey thought it was time to try on all of her old clothes
whether or not they fit
a tutu!!
she wore that for her one-year pictures
it was the first tutu I made
her future bff, madison, wore it, too
baby lulu, you are welcome to borrow the pink tutu
however, I think its permanent home is here
Abbey's not parting with this so easily
