A Hard Night's Day

My kids are lots of things, but they're definitely not sleepers.  Abbey still wakes up needing water or a hug or a song lots of nights.  Dylan, well, he's up a lot during the night.  Every once in a while we get a few hours at a time out of him, but on bad nights he's up once an hour from midnight until moring.  Functioning without a decent night's sleep has become a science around here (literally, if you consider copious amounts of caffeine to be scientific.)

Although it seems counterintuitive, the thing that helps the most is to get the kids out of the house and doing something stimulating most days.  It keeps us from going stir crazy, and sometimes the ride home from our outings will put Abbey to sleep for a while.  On really good days, she'll even stay asleep for a bit when we get home.

We went to the Detroit Science Center the other day, and it was a great indoor break from our summer heat wave.  Abbey has been there once before, but we'll definitely be going back.  (In part because we had a wonderful time and in part because we ended up buying a membership, since it was going to cost over $30 for the three of us to park & play!)  There's a little area there called Kid's Town, and we spent almost three hours there before exploring the rest of the museum a little and having a snack.  Dylan happily snuggled into the Ergo and watched Abbey having a blast.  Even really rough nights end in a sunrise, and they can morph into days filled with smiles.
Abbey loves water
Dylan loved having her squirt the water onto his hands
yuck
kind of typical, unfortunately
making a butterfly
proudly shown to Daddy later on
will she always do this when I say, "say cheese"?
beep beep beep
floating balls are fun
always curious, Abbey wanted to try that ball on the air machine
it didn't float
first time in a ball pit
because hanging out in the Ergo gets a little old
I'll be chasing her around soon
I thought he didn't like his green bean/sweet pea medley
he was just beat
