Bringing the Fun Inside

Autumn in Michigan is means colorful trees, red barns at cider mills, warm colors tinged with sunshine.

Taking advantage of sun soaked mornings, we dawdle on our way to the garage, turning the few feet into a roundabout journey through the yard, pointing to old birds' nests peeking through thinning leaves.

Autumn in Michigan is gray skies, wind stripping branches of their colorful accessories, rain-soaked leaves trodden into brown pulp on the sidewalks.

Errands and playdates beckon, but some days the rain is chilly enough to bring the fun inside instead.

Both kids love washing dishes, brushing their teeth, washing their hands and all other activities that involve running water.

In an effort to practice a little conservation, and give them a way to play together without elbowing for position, the water table came inside, along with some bath toys.  Later, a couple squirts of floor cleaner and a mop recycled some of that water into an afternoon cleaning session.

This week, we washed and hollowed our mini pumpkins.  Perfect (temporary) homes for my little Cinderella's favorite friends.

How are you spending your rainy days this fall?

Aw, I love your little mouse "house"! Very creative. And it hasn't rained here for weeks! We could actually use some...but I'm sure it will be snowing soon enough.

You should write tourism pamphlets for the state of Michigan.
(I realized as I typed this that my compliment sounds somewhat dry and clinical.)

But seriously. You make me want to move there.
    Or at least visit.

I hear they've got great pumpkins for temporary stays ;-)

Mine love anything to do with water too but I have not been brave enough to bring our water table inside. I feel like there would be some sort of tsunami if I did.

What a lovely picture you've conjured up with your writing here, Angela... It really warmed my heart reading it.  Please tell Abbey I say hi! :)

So creative! I haven't brought water inside... though sometimes I'll just let our boys take a bath with all their toys just for fun in the middle of the day.

They got yucky, quickly, but that's ok.  It was fun while it lasted :)

    (and thank you!)

Yes, we'll do that every once in a while, too.  Water makes them happy.  Probably because it means getting mommy soaked :)

Oh, thank you.  She said hi back, though she looked a little confused :)

There was a lot of water on the floor, I'm not going to lie.  And on the walls.  And inexplicably on some of the counterspace.  It won't be an everyday activity, but I will definitely use it as a last resort :)

Visit soon :)  Winter is yucky and cold, which is NOT my thing.  So you would see a lot of inside places.

There are lovely things about Michigan, and for some people winter is one of them.

What a cute idea!! If only our punkins weren't demolished by the animals.  I miss fall in MI (Being a yooper, it was a lil piece of heaven, I think).

I have never been to the UP :(  It's embarrassing, really.  I can't imagine how beautiful it is up there in the fall; it's pretty here, and I am in serious Metro Detroit suburbia :)

Next year I might do some research and see if there's a way to keep them like that.  Something I can spray on them?
