Abbey Loves the Martians

For the second year in a row, Abbey and Dylan attended the Race Expo for the Martian Invasion of the Races.  Maybe it's the groovy metallic sheen that those silly aliens sport, but Abbey might be the biggest human face of the "martins" (not a spelling mistake, that's how she says it).

Dylan, on the other hand, had a little meltdown right after having his picture taken with the spaceship.  Maybe he thought he was really going to get to go into outer space?

Race day was gorgeous, relatively speaking.  Weather predictions had low 30s with a "wintery mix" of precipitation, but we ended up clear and cool and perfect for running.

I was a little worried about the run, my third half-marathon.  I cut a few of my long runs short during my training and did virtually all of my training on the treadmill.

Because I am a wimp and don't like to run outside in the snow.  (Hence my extreme pleasure that the "wintery mix" held off until Sunday.)  I know, why plan to run a race at the beginning of April in Michigan if I don't like to train in the winter?  I guess I've been bewitched by the metallic sheen of those martians, too.

The nerves must have kicked my adrenaline up a notch, because despite a slightly long course (13.4 miles instead of 13.1), I ran my best time ever!  The course was great, and the race organizers handled the distance discrepancy with a lot of grace (not that it matters to me, because I am so, so far below elite runner status!)

Toot toot! (that's me tooting my own horn)  Pat pat! (and patting myself on the back)

Ryan ran the 5K Saturday, but stay tuned.  He's registered for the Detroit half-marathon this fall!
