Surprised Again

This week has been absolutely killer in terms of heat.  The humidity is off the charts - well, it feels off the charts; I don't actually keep track of those sorts of things - and it's sweltering by mid-morning.  I realize we're in Michigan and that other parts of the country have us beat each day, but for us this has been pretty bad.

So we hit the sprinkler park twice.

I generally put too much some thought into what I'm going to do with the kids each day.  I want them to see other kids, do a variety of things, and be exposed to as much as possible.  However, all I wanted this week was to be not so stinkin' hot.  I am a little behind and haven't bought a baby pool yet, so we needed to look for relief outside of our own little world, yet there's no way I am prepared to take two kids to the pool or the beach by myself (or even with other mom friends who have their own kiddos to chase around).

Sprinkler park it was.

My expectations weren't too high when we drove to the park; I was prepared for melt-downs and crabbiness in the heat.  Seeing Abbey practice a new-found gallop in two inches of water, spooning water onto Dylan with a baby shovel, and patiently sharing Abbey's toys with some grabby kids new friends, I thought about how sometimes I can over-plan, even though they're still babies.  Today, Abbey's goldfish cracker bowl became a fantastic toy when filled with sprinkler water (crackers settled nicely into our tummies.)  Dylan squinted intently and contentedly at his sister and all of the action spiraling around him.

Some days everything just falls neatly into a comfy rhythm.  In this oppressing heat, working on little sleep (two teeth anyone?), these days were exactly what we all needed.

Oh, and food continues to go over well.  Avocado was a success.  A messy success, but a success!

I thought a $20 teether had to be a (super cute) gimmick, but the Easter Bunny insisted
I stand corrected
