Dylan's in a bit of a pickle developmentally right now. He desparately wants to crawl, so he flops onto his belly at any chance he gets, moves around, then gets frustrated that he isn't moving quickly enough to his destination. If he didn't get so upset, it would actually be kind of sweet; he is generally so laid back that it's fun to see him so determined to do something. Unfortunately, he isn't easily distracted from his crawling quest. Not much holds his attention lately.
That can be a problem when Abbey naps. She, of course, still won't take a normal nap - in her crib. However, lately she has been crashing in the car on the way back from our morning activities, and most of the time I'm able to squeeze out another twenty or thirty minutes on the couch. Dylan doesn't understand the concept of being quiet during Abbey's naps, so I have to pull out all the stops to get him to stop yelling about the crawling!
Enter Legos.
I pulled them out the other day with the attention of letting him play with the soft, oversized blocks. Those are easiest on the gums, and teeth are another thing he's working on pretty hard right now. However, he discovered the magic of Legos that millions of children before him have already found. He studies them, turns them over in his hands, bashes them together to make noise, and (of course) gnaws on them a little bit. Pure magic.
Thankfully, Abbey is able to get her snooze on even through crashing Legos.
