Show Choir

Abbey doesn't really watch TV.  I was one of those goofy people who didn't want her to watch anything until she was two, and now we still don't really watch any kids shows.  For a while, we would watch some Elmo songs on You Tube, but that was really it.

I, however, like to watch TV while I am feeding Dylan.  He has his eyes closed a lot of the time, so I don't feel like I am neglecting him, but I digress.  Many of the shows I like to watch aren't really toddler appropriate (LOST, Las Vegas, countless Law and Order reruns!) because of fighting and things like that, so I tried not to give in to watching while she was awake.  Then I discovered Glee.  Glee is not really toddler appropriate in terms of innuendo and dark humor, but on the surface it is a great show to watch with Abbey.  Nice, wholesome teenagers, singing, dancing, etc.

Since I only started watching a few weeks ago when I saw the gateway drug of a Madonna-centric episode, I ordered the first season from Netflix.  I have already watched most of the first disc (four episodes), although I've missed some of the plot points, since Abbey insists on speeding through the episodes to get to the "singing and dancing parts".  She particularly loved the Vocal Adrenaline rendition of "Rehab" (pilot episode) - so much so that we had to watch it three times and change into her poofy Easter dress before going to lunch with Ryan today.  Another huge hit was "Single Ladies", and she has been walking around singing "All the single ladies, all the single ladies, put your hands up, oh oh oh."

My head is hung in shame.  I monitored her TV so closely for twenty-four months, and she still doesn't watch normal toddler TV.  But fill a show with Madonna tunes and suddenly I'm letting her watch a Justin Timberlake-esque show choir advisor's rendition of Color Me Badd.  I wonder if Royal Oak High School has a glee club?
